Friday evening, the BC Lions will have their rematch against the Edmonton Eskimos at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton. The Eskimos beat the Lions at BC Place last Friday 27-20, and the Lions are eager to redeem themselves.
Edmonton halfback Jason Goss still has a sore neck and back after Lions left tackle grabbed his helmet “…to get his hands around my throat”, alleges Goss. Murphy didn’t seem too apologetic, “I play to the whistle, but I don’t intentionally go out there and try to hurt anybody”. Incidentally, Murphy was fined for his actions in last week’s loss where he jumped on top of Goss and pinned him down after a Lion turnover.
Buck Pierce Eskimos defensive tackle Dario Romero was also fined for pushing Murphy away from Goss, and Safety Siddeeq Shabazz was ejected after the controversial scuffle.
Murphy went on:
”For Jason Goss to say something like, “I hope I’m going to see him” is just pointless talk…If somebody from the defensive line said something about it, we’d have a problem. But I’m not worried about a little defensive back spouting his mouth off”.
Murphy alleges that Goss poked him in the eye after he tackled Goss who had recovered a fumble. “I still have a bit of a black eye. That’s what enraged me…for him to say it was all me…I feel like a freaking kid for saying this…but he started it…when you poke somebody in the eye…c’mon.”
Honestly, it was a pretty good football game last week and this pointless incident took away from it. Even if Goss “started it”, Murphy should have kept his mouth shut. As his coach said “A lot of things go on under the pile, you don’t want to discuss at the dining room table…it’s all just part of the game”.
Kickoff is this Friday at 6pm (PT). Hopefully, both teams can stick to playing football.
